A college student who was critically hurt in a devastating boat accident is now dealing with even more challenges during her difficult recovery journey.
In May, 22-year-old Hannah Smith was enjoying a cruise in the Bahamas with a friend when something went terribly wrong. She ended up falling off the boat and was pulled beneath it just as it began to dock.
The horrifying accident left her with severe injuries, including the partial loss of both her legs. She had to be flown back to the United States right away to receive emergency medical treatment.
According to the police at the time, “The victim is alleged to have entered the water from a vessel she was a passenger on while it was attempting to dock.”
“She sustained serious injuries to her lower body, caused by the vessel’s propeller.”
In the days that followed, Hannah’s sister started a GoFundMe page to help support her recovery. Through the fundraiser, family and friends have been regularly sharing updates on how Hannah is doing.

The fundraising goal has been set at $250,000, and so far, it has gathered more than $53,000 in donations.
On the page, Hannah is lovingly described as a source of ‘light’ and ‘love’. Her sister Rachel added, “Our little sister is nothing short of a headache but we wouldn’t want her any other way.” She also wrote, “She is literally the strongest of us all.”
Rachel provided the most recent update on June 20. Sadly, the message included some upsetting developments in Hannah’s condition.
Rachel asked supporters to keep Hannah in their prayers and thoughts, sharing the following update: “The past few days have been pretty rough. She was scheduled to undergo her 27/28th surgery today. However, due to multiple complications, surgeons were unable to proceed.”
“She’s currently undergoing needed lab work, tests and procedures to assist with her comfort, control pain, remedy certain issues and prepare for additional surgeries.”
